• Joyce Walters, Executive Director

Joyce became the Executive Director of Type 1 United in June 2024.

Joyce comes to Type 1 United with experience in both the corporate and nonprofit sectors. Most recently she served as the executive director for a multimillion-dollar statewide educational nonprofit that served over 600 schools throughout the state providing need-based funding to improve student outcomes. Earlier in her career, she was a member of the corporate giving team at Boeing, where she ultimately rose to the title of Corporate Director of Education and Workforce Initiatives.

Joyce has a passion for supporting children and families and that has been a constant thread in her career. “I’m excited to join the Type 1 United team and contribute to an organization providing life-changing experiences for children, adults and families living with type 1 diabetes.” Joyce has family members living with diabetes and looks forward to using her professional and personal experiences to contribute to the continued success of the organization.

A native of Port Angeles, Joyce has deep roots in the Pacific Northwest. She looks forward to building on Type 1 United’s existing partnerships and sharing the organization with new partners. Joyce enjoys traveling, hiking, fitness, canine scentwork, reading, cooking and gardening. She can often be found on the ocean beaches or hiking in rain forests with her beagle, Liam.

  • Grace Jordan, Development Associate

With over five years supporting nonprofits in project management, consulting, and client services, Grace helped strengthen operations, coordinate events and trainings, manage CRM systems, and create thoughtful outreach materials with care and attention to detail. Grace’s work behind the scenes—whether refining deliverables or helping diverse stakeholders navigate systems—comes from a belief that well-organized support enables meaningful impact.

Grace’s connection to mission-driven work is shaped by personal experience as well as professional skills: growing up with a father living with type 2 diabetes taught her empathy for people navigating health challenges, and as a camp counselor at the University of Utah she supported a camper with type 1 diabetes, which deepened her appreciation for individualized care and attentiveness.

These experiences ground her approach in compassion, reliability, and a commitment to helping others feel seen, supported, and empowered in the work they do.
